Packsaddle provides accommodation for 124 students, comprising of 16 flats and 14 self-contained studios, across 3 blocks. Each flat contains either six, seven or eight fully furnished bedrooms with 3/4 double beds with each flat offering a fully equipped kitchen/living area.

The logistics for this project were extremely complicated. A heavily sloping site, with very restricting access that was also surrounded by trees meant that there was the need for transhipping the kit to site via our various Frame Homes transport vehicles. We utilised a Tower crane for the erection process, which sat on a much smaller footprint than a mobile crane, keeping the site access open.

We provided a Closed panel solution, along with Factory formed floor and roof cassettes utilising Metal-Web Joists. We were able to make large panels and cassettes for this project to speed up the erection process, which included co-ordination with other contractors as we had to crane over 100 bathroom Pods into the rooms.

This project was Shortlisted for ‘Commercial project of the year’ at the Structural Timber Awards.
